If you’re one of the outdoor walking types, you’ll find no end of trails within the local Dumfries & Galloway district. Likely you already know about these but in case you don’t or are coming from a very different area here is some local info for you.

Walking Groups

There are a number of walking groups that have events and meetups in the vacinity that might be of interest to you. One of the best places to take a look would be the following website.

Here’s an except from their website about them that will give you a little more understanding.

Group walks

The Dumfries & District Group organises walks to suit most tastes throughout the region and beyond.  We offer our members about 90 walks a year.

The core programme consists of day walks every fortnight on both Saturday and Sunday: usually an easy, low-level walk and a more strenuous one, and ranging from 6 to 12 miles in length. Between May and July we provide a shorter evening walk on alternate Tuesdays and Wednesdays every week.

In addition to the core programme there is a Half Day walk and an Adventure walk every month. Half Day walks are generally in the morning and are 4 to 6 miles in length and usually at a leisurely pace. Adventure walks are more challenging as they may be in an area new to the walk leader; the route in consequence may change on the day.

Residential weekends are held each year and allow the group to visit areas beyond the range of our day walks.

Please see the current programme for details of upcoming walks and further information.

Social events

The group also undertakes a number of social activities throughout the year, including a barbecue, pasta’n’pics evening, social night, Christmas lunch and a quiz night.

Maps of Local Walks
