Our Location

We are looking forward to seeing you

Nestled in the Galloway hills close to the junction of the A75 and A712, and close to Newton Stewart, it is easily accessible and central to the Galloway hills and the Machars. At the same time, it is quiet and mainly hidden from view.

Only its chimneys can be seen from the tops of the surrounding hills, while from its upper floor bedrooms there are magnificent views of its gardens and the surrounding countryside. A short walk to the golf course will give you magnificent views of the hills the Machars and the Solway Firth.

Having such spacious grounds were also quite capable of receiving guests by helicopter should the need require. In fact, we’ve already done so and there’s a picture within the gallery.

History & Heritage

Kirroughtree House was the Mansion House for the Kirroughtree Estate which was owned by the Heron family for well over 300 years but sold by them to Major Armitage in the 1880s. Following his death in 1931 most of the estate including its farms were acquired by the Forestry Commission, although his daughter continued to live in the House, until her death in 1942.It was first used as a Hotel in 1946 and has been owned by a number of hotel groups and individuals since that time it has been well maintained and improved over the years, while largely maintaining its period feel. In the stair lobby, you will find a number of early maps of the local area. For a glimpse into its somewhat colourful history and connections find Kirroughtree House on Wikipedia.
